Regional Director, Labour Relations (6 month contract)

Reporting to the VP of Labour Relations, the Regional Director, Labour Relations is responsible for labour relations and employee relations for our Retirement residences, Long Term Care homes and Home Health offices located in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.  This is a six (6) month contract position.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • To represent Management in Labour negotiations and conciliation/arbitration or provincial tribunal proceedings;
  • To be responsible for the labour relations/employee relations in our operational sites servicing approximately 2000 employees in a specified region;
  • To act as Chief Spokesperson at collective bargaining tables;
  • To provide labour and employee relations training and consulting to managers, and other supervisory personnel;
  • To ensure adherence to collective agreement terms, legislation and corporate policies;
  • To assist managers with grievances and, if necessary, attend  labour management meetings for corporate support;
  • To conduct workplace investigations where required;
  • To respond to and represent company interests in relation to human rights and employment standards complaints (mediation level only);
  • To respond to and be responsible for non-union wrongful termination complaints (up to but excluding executive director);
  • To assist in the performance management process at the operational level;
  • To develop and maintain strong employee/labour relations in all of the facilities;
  • To prepare regular Human Resources statistics and reports for corporate consideration;
  • To uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Revera’s Code of Conduct;
  • To perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

  • Degree/diploma in Human Resources, along with professional designation from a Human Resources Professional Association;
  • Degree in Business / Human Resources/Labour Relations / Law is considered an asset;
  • A minimum of five (5) years labour contract negotiations experience as a chief spokesperson with multiple unions;
  • Must have extensive labour relations experience dealing with grievances, arbitration preparation and presentation, collective agreement interpretation, human rights and directing line management in the performance management of unionized  and non unionized personnel;
  • Must possess an excellent working attitude and have the ability to function as a team player in a confidential role;
  • Must be willing to travel to various locations when required;
  • A valid driver’s license is required;
  • Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset;
  • Advanced Microsoft office skills are required.
