Director of Finance

On behalf of our client, Vomar Industries Inc., we are recruiting a Director of Finance, located in La Salle, Manitoba. Vomar Industries is a national privately held company servicing retailers across Canada with the Tank Traders BBQ Tank Exchange program. The company's line of business includes the retail sale of bottled or bulk liquefied petroleum gas. They focus on providing premium products, supported by a high level of customer service and thus establishing a nationally recognized brand.

Reporting to the President, the Director of Finance is an integral member of the leadership team responsible for the financial strategy and integrity of the organization. This position will appeal to a seasoned, self-motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-faceted and entrepreneurial work environment. The Director of Finance will be an experienced financial leader who understands what it means to roll up their sleeves and take a new and fast-growing organization to the next level. The Director of Finance will have a proven track record as a hands-on professional proficient in developing and implementing financial systems, controls and best practices and procedures. The Director of Finance will be responsible for the day-to-day financial activities of the organization including: financial management, accounting, reporting, internal controls, audit and adherence to various regulations, financial planning, analysis, budgeting, forecasting, information systems, business development and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Organization

  • Assist in formulating company strategy, direction and supporting tactical initiatives
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans
  • Develop financial and tax strategies for the company and owner/owner’s family members
  • Manage the capital request and budgeting processes for the company
  • Develop and monitor key performance measures that support the company's strategic direction

Operations

  • Participate in key company decisions as a member of the corporate team
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the corporate team
  • Manage the accounting, finance and treasury, human resource, IT, and legal functions
  • Oversee the financial operations of related companies in the group
  • Manage any third parties to which functions have been outsourced (IT, EDI, etc.)
  • Oversee the company's transaction processing and ERP systems (RMA, Great Plains, Moneris)
  • Implement operational best practices
  • Conduct acquisition due diligence and assist with acquisition negotiations as needed
  • Manage the development lifecycle of the company’s software and information technology hardware

Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Administer the annual corporate year end
  • Oversee the financial reporting and issuances of financial information for the corporation
  • Review annual corporate filings (year end, income taxes, bank reporting and reviews, etc.)
  • Report financial results to the President and Corporate Team

Risk Management

  • Maintain a constant understanding and mitigate key elements of the company’s risk profile and at all times maintain appropriate insurance coverages for the company
  • Construct, monitor and maintain reliable control systems for the company
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure adequate record keeping systems are in place and adhered to
  • Investigate and report on risk issues to the President and Corporate Team members

Financial Management

  • Create, monitor and maintain company forecasts (cash flows, operations, financial position) and identify and mitigate any operational or strategic funding gaps
  • Coordinate and arrange for short and long-term financing to meet the company’s ongoing operational and strategic objectives
  • Manage the company’s financial position with respect to banking and cash allocations
  • Represent the company with banks, financiers and other investors as applicable

Human Resources and Payroll

  • Oversee the payroll department ensuring processing accuracy, adherence to internal controls, timeliness and compliance with multi-provincial regulations
  • Oversee the company RRSP and health and benefit plans
  • Ensure compliance and adherence to multi-provincial labour standards as applicable
  • Assist in the ongoing management of the company’s compensation planning
  • Develop and analyze the company’s compensation budgets and forecasts

 

Skills And Qualifications:

  • Professional accounting designation (CA, CMA or CGA) is required
  • Minimum 7 to 10 years of experience in senior accounting and finance roles with progressive experience in accounting
  • Knowledge and experience managing the production of annual budgets, forecasts and cost accounting analysis
  • Experience providing financial analysis for capital investments, pricing decisions and contract negotiations
  • Background in working in a manufacturing environment is an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced growth environment and lead growth management initiatives
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and keen adaptability to a dynamic, changing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external parties and lead with credibility, integrity and trust while achieving results and fostering a positive team culture
