Environmental Education & Outreach Coordinator

The Canadian Parks & Wilderness Society (CPAWS) Manitoba Chapter is hiring for the position of Environmental Education & Outreach Coordinator. This position, based out of Winnipeg, is 40 hours per week, $12/hour, starting immediately or as soon as possible for a total period of 8 weeks. Please note that the position requires flexibility as some work will be completed outside of regular business hours, based on available outreach opportunities.

Position Description

The primary responsibility of the Environmental Education & Outreach Coordinator is to assist CPAWS staff and volunteers in the planning, promotion and delivery of a variety of outreach events, and the development of our environmental education program. Other duties, including administrative tasks and assistance may be assigned, as required.

KEY ACTIVITIES 

·         Finding outreach opportunities during the period of employment and exploring opportunities for additional CPAWS outreach events in 2018 and beyond

·         Applying for permits and licences as required,  preparing and distributing outreach and promotional materials and co-ordinating audience-appropriate activities before and during events

·         Representing CPAWS in a manner consistent with its mission, vision and values at community events and festivals to provide public education on CPAWS initiatives

·         Assisting in organizing CPAWS events 

·         Researching and developing presentations for our environmental education program

 

EXPERIENCE


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable interacting with the public in various settings
  • Comfortable working outdoors
  • Educational background or knowledge/experience in a relevant field (environmental science; education; marketing & public relations; community services & development)
  • Passionate about the Boreal Forest, wildlife, conservation issues and northern communities
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient skills in MS Word and Powerpoint
  • An understanding and sensitivity of cultural issues
  • Access to the internet and/or telephone and ability to respond to communications in a timely manner
  • Experience with event planning/co-ordination an asset
  • Experience working with children and families is an asset


FUNDING ELIGIBILITY

This position is funded through a Canada Summer Jobs grant. To be eligible for this position, all applicants must:

• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
• Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
