Executive Director

Job details:

 Our client is a non-profit organization that provides residential support to adults who have an intellectual disability.

Our client operates 17 households where 2-4 people live together under one roof and they also have a Community Support Program for 20 people who live in their own apartments. People within the Community Support Program receive anywhere from 2 – 20 hours of support a week in such areas as grocery shopping, budgeting, home maintenance, community access and attending medical appointments. The two programs combined offer services to a total of 80 individuals.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is primarily responsible for the administration and operation of the organization. In addition to ensuring that the day to day operations are in keeping with the philosophy and mission of our client, the Executive Director maintains positive, collaborative working relationships with government and other agencies. As the ideal candidate, you are known for your relationship building expertise, and your passion for helping others within an inclusive, people focused environment as well as having strong leadership qualities and business sense.

The duties and responsibilities of the Executive Director are categorized as follows:


  • Represent the company in interactions with key stakeholders, government and other agencies and maintain a positive working relationship with them
  • Actively promote and uphold the image of the organization to the public


  • Carry out monthly reporting to the Board
  • Meet with individual client and families to resolve issues of mutual concern


  • Prepare the annual budget and make operational decisions within budget
  • Provide regular updates to the Board
  • Oversee the fundraising plans and address funding issues


  • Hire and supervise staff
  • Conduct performance evaluations and salary review
  • Ensure that the personnel policies and procedures are applied consistently



  • Bachelors Degree (i.e. Social Work, Disability Studies, Community Rehabilitation)
  • 7+ years experience in a leadership capacity in a not-for-profit
  • A suitable combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Experience in non-profit fund raising would be an asset
