Main Street Project, Inc. offers a broad range of programs and services for adults in the core area of Winnipeg who are experiencing poverty, ill health, homelessness and substance abuse.  MSP employees are engaged as a team and driven to make a difference in client-centered environment.


Position Summary:

This is a permanent full-time position reporting directly to the Project Manager and is responsible to provide leadership and monitor all activities over the course of her/his shift to ensure the best possible care, welfare, safety and security of Main Street Project clients and employees. Program areas supervised include Crisis/Shelter, Drop-in and Intoxicated Persons Detention Area (IPDA).


Position Duties:                                                                          

·      Models appropriate behaviour in the workplace;

·      Assists management with implementation of new policies and practices;

·      Assumes a leadership role and takes appropriate action in emergency situations;

·      Directs and controls all activities occurring on the shift;

·      Delegates staff tasks for the shift;

·      Monitors work habits and conduct of staff, and provides feedback to management as an integral part of the performance appraisal process;

·      Assigns and coordinates all transportation services on shift;

·      Ensures ‘master’ files are complete for all contacts;

·      Witnesses by signature all IPDA discharges;

·      Witnesses all staff time entries for payroll purposes;

·      Mediates conflict between employees or employee/client as needed or upon request;

·      Provides support and/or assistance to non-program employees as needed or requested;

·      Calls in relief staff as needed or on request;

·      Assists with training and orientation of new employees;

·      Ensures that confidentiality requirements under PHIA are adhered to.

·       Ensures that all MSP polices are adhered to and that any departure from practice consistent with policy is reported to the Program Manager.


Position Qualifications:

·      Certificate (2 year) in the field of human services or Grade 12 or equivalent with 2 years related experience.

·      Demonstrated leadership qualities;

·      Demonstrated experience in supporting issues of poverty, mental health, and addiction;

·      Knowledge of resources available to MSP clients;

·      Demonstrated mediation and conflict resolution skills;

·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

·      Competent in basic computer skills

·      Valid driver’s licence, CPR and First Aid.


Salary:  Starting $17.55 hr. Plus a comprehensive Benefits package.
