DSM is recruiting for the indefinite term full-time position of Medical Transcriptionist for the Health Sciences Centre - Pathology Laboratory.
Reporting to the Office Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for transcribing detailed adult and pediatric pathological reports (autopsy, surgical, forensic, cytologic, ophthalmology, neuropathology etc.) from dictaphone and hand-written reports.
The incumbent will also maintain departmental files of all reports and handle incoming and outgoing requests for departmental staff and medical personnel within this facility and others as required. Computer experience, proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word and Excel), dictatyping skills and the ability to type at a minimum of 65-75 wpm are required and proficiency in Access is an asset. Must have excellent organizational skills and clerical aptitude, be able to work independently and be able to read, write legibly and follow oral and written instructions. Professionalism and tact are vital when dealing with sensitive/confidential information. Demonstrated working knowledge of medical terminology is required and experience in a diagnostic area will be a definite asset. The individual must have proven prioritization skills and have the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment and work effectively under pressure to deal with multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Applicants must have completed grade 12, Manitoba standards, as well as be a graduate of a recognized Medical Secretary/Medical Stenographic course or equivalent. One year of previous related office experience including the transcription of medical reports is required. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
Anticipated Shifts: Days; 75 hrs biweekly; 7.5-hour shifts
Salary: $16.376 - $18.984 per hour, as per CUPE contract
