Purchasing Manager

On behalf of our client, we are currently recruiting a Purchasing Manager located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Our client is a manufacturing company that has serviced local, national and international markets for over 50 years.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing all purchasing day-to-day activities. Working closely with the production, manufacturing, quality assurance and engineering functions the Purchasing Manager works to ensure optimum quality, pricing and delivery of components (correct quantity, quality, pricing and delivery schedules). The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the development of relationships with vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of purchasing, strategic planning, supplier selection, consolidation, qualification, sourcing and cost reduction
  • Manage the supply chain process from start to finish with the Production Manager
  • Negotiate long term supplier agreements
  • Develop the next level of direct supply from vendors
  • Maintain and develop vendor relationships (supplier knowledge, technology, sales personnel, strengths and weaknesses)
  • Effectively communicate supply chain information throughout the organization
  • Ensure a continuous supply of components to production
  • Negotiate price reductions and resolve disputes with existing vendors on a continual basis
  • Communicate and enforce quality requirements with vendors
  • Maintain competency through ongoing skills development
  • Strong involvement in cost reduction strategies
  • Travel to meet with vendors

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in the areas of engineering, business, certification or other relevant education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in strategic sourcing, new product development, and contract negotiations
  •  Analytical thinker and strong negotiating skills
  • Excellent communication with demonstrated history of success in managing personnel and suppliers to meet aggressive on time delivery, cost and quality targets.
  • Proficiency with MS Office as an asset (Word and Excel).
