Associate Deputy Minister, Community Safety Division

Our client, Manitoba Justice, is seeking its next Associate Deputy Minister, Community Safety Division.  Manitoba Justice, in its role of administering civil and criminal justice in Manitoba, has developed a Criminal Justice System Modernization Strategy, designed to improve the efficiency and outcomes of the criminal justice system.  The strategy has four focuses; crime prevention, targeted resources for serious criminal cases, more effective use of restorative justice and responsible reintegration.  The Community Safety division, the largest in the department, is organized in ten branches, the most significant of which are Custody, Corrections and Policing and Public Safety. 

As a key member of Manitoba Justice’s executive and leadership team, the Associate Deputy Minister Community Safety Division (ADM, Community Safety) will lead the effective development, enhancement and delivery of responsive, outcomes-oriented custody, probation, rehabilitation, policing, prevention, security and intelligence services across Manitoba. The ADM Community Safety will work closely with colleagues in Manitoba Justice to define the departmental vision, goals and objectives, integrate and co-ordinate processes and practices and develop the culture and environment necessary for achievement and success.

You will bring to this role, a post-secondary degree in public or business administration or a related discipline, complemented by a minimum of seven years senior leadership experience in a multi-service, geographically disbursed organization.  A demonstrated successful track record of leading transformational change, developing, monitoring and evaluating programs and services and working effectively in a multi-union environment is necessary.  An in-depth knowledge of Manitoba’s criminal justice system and its delivery framework as well as criminal justice reform initiatives at the provincial, national and international level is considered a definite asset.
