Manager Human Resources

On behalf of our client, we are currently recruiting a Manager Human Resources to join their team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Our client provides transportation solutions across Canada through a large network of terminals and service points ensuring customers’ freight is delivered at the most cost-effective price, safely and on time.

Reporting to the Director Human Resources, this management position is primarily responsible for providing support to the organization in areas of disability and claims management. The Manager Human Resources will coordinate all aspects of the claims management system for accident/injuries and return to work programs as well as employee/labour relations. Though the primary responsibility will be disability management, the Manager will also work alongside the Director and assist in other human resources functions and programs.


  • Lead the administration and coordination of occupational and non-occupational illness and injury with providers including WCB, STD, LTD and MPIC claims
  • Act as a point of contact for claims management related inquiries for employees and management
  • Work closely with employees and management to coordinate and assist in facilitating early and safe return to work opportunities for employees
  • Accurately complete and submit all documentation for claims processing and status changes in monitoring systems
  • Facilitate appropriate interventions for safe and timely re-integration into the workplace
  • Provide guidance regarding disability management issues and employee claims status
  • Liaise with the medical community, WCB, STD/LTD provider on claim information and return to work coordination
  • Report and track claims management; create and distribute reports as required
  • Lead and coordinate programs and services related to disability, health and wellness education to support and focus on trends of claim types, benefit costs and industry standards
  • Work with leadership to promote good employee relations in support and achievement of attendance and claims management programs and strategies
  • Support human resources best practices in all areas including but not limited to recruitment/retention, orientation/training, employee relations, performance management, regulatory compliance and legal requirements as related to HR, group insurance/pension plan negotiation and management, WCB/WSIB plan management, and disability/workplace injury claims management

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Certificate in Human Resources, Certified Disability Management Professional, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three to five years’ experience in a Human Resources role with a strong focus on Disability Claims Management
  • Demonstrated ability to provide human resource support including problem solving and conflict resolution across a wide range of business areas
  • High degree of professionalism and integrity
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and use sound judgment
  • Ability to prioritize work, multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Proven ability to provide exceptional internal customer service and work with staff at all levels
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office programs, and internal software as required
