CNC Programmer

This position is located in Carleton Place, ON., Just outside of Ottawa, ON.

Compensation: $28-$35hr + Medical, Dental, and life insurance benefits after 90 day probationary period.

We are a major supplier of precision-machined components and complex assemblies for aerospace, defence, nuclear, resource, transportation and industrial customers. Our facility is very unique with 30 state-of-the-art CNC milling and turning centers in a climate-controlled environment, including 9 axis lathes and 5 axis mills.
We are in a huge growth mode – hundreds of new part numbers related to four new programs. Job Description:

Create part programs for 3 to 5 axis mills & 3 to 9 axis lathes, maximizing the efficiency of the machines (eg. balancing dual lathe turret time).

Design work holding fixtures, produce programs and drawings, as required

Source new cutting tools, as required

Create/update methods documentation for production use (ie. tool-lists, set-up drawings, etc.)

Participate in new product reviews and document NPI action plans.

Support production team ‘at the spindle’ to ensure successful start-up of new programs and improvements to existing programs.

Support other departments within the company when needed (ie. Sales, Quality etc.)

Standardize all programming procedures - including program comments, machine setup sheets, tool list naming conventions, etc. Institute data control and read out program data base structure.

Create a detailed machine and post processor matrix for programming reference. This will include configurations for Gibbs/Esprit and the posts that need to be used based on part requirements.

Troubleshoot and repair all post processors and obtain proper MTM posts where applicable.

Develop formalized programming training for programmers to upgrade their skill level. Mentor where necessary.

Review and implement lean initiatives to boost output at the production stage. Work instructions, new tooling, and setup equipment for machines.

Develop standardized tool library for Gibbs and Esprit software.


Trade qualified machinist and//or equivalent college program.

3 to 5 years setting up CNC 5 axis mills and 9 axis lathes with live tooling

3 to 5 years CNC programming experience (Esprit, GibbsCam preferred)

Have Post Processor knowledge

Excellent drawing interpretation including GD&T.

Good measurement skills

Good oral and written communication skills in English

Good team skills (collaboration, listening, helpful)

Willing to work overtime

Willing to relocate to the Ottawa area.

Have supervisory experience
