Wilderness Committee Campaign Assistant (Winnipeg, MB)

The Wilderness Committee is seeking a Campaign Assistant for our field office in Winnipeg. This is a full-time position based on 37.5 hours/week.


The Wilderness Committee is a grassroots, membership-based organization that has a history of more than 30 years on the front line of environmental battles across Canada, with offices in Manitoba, British Columbia and Ontario. We defend provincial parks and wilderness, stand up for wild species, and campaign for a healthier climate.


The Campaign Assistant is responsible for coordinating the administrative functions of the Wilderness Committee Manitoba office, including correspondence, day to day operations, finances, coordinating our door-to-door canvass and general communications. In addition, the Campaign Assistant will assist the Manitoba Campaign Director with campaign research, outreach and volunteer coordination as necessary.


You will be directly responsible for:

·        Recruiting, hiring and supervising our door-to-door canvassers, collecting and reviewing cash outs and organizing maps

·        Responding to phone, email and mail inquiries

·        Assisting with data management, tracking expenditures, basic bookkeeping, payroll, and reporting

·        Assisting with editing and fact checking of publications

·        Developing and maintaining media and legislative tracking systems

·        Performing research for campaigns, both in the office and in the field

·        Participating in field excursions as necessary

·        Assisting with public outreach including presentations to schools, coordination of rallies and other public events, and sales of Wilderness Committee products, as determined by the Manitoba Campaign Director

·        Supporting our social media and website communications

·        Other duties as determined by the Manitoba Campaign Director


You will have:

·        At least 2 years’ experience (paid or unpaid) in a non-profit organization in the environmental or other social justice movement

·        Proven experience with basic budgeting and finances

·        A good understanding of non-profit fundraising strategies and challenges, previous door-to-door canvass experience an asset

·        Demonstrated human resources skills

·        Well organized with an eye for details

·        Strong research and written communication skills

·        An excellent communicator and people person with strong relationship building skills

·        Proven experience in project coordination

·        Computer and social media experience

·        Experience working with volunteers

·        A class 5 driver’s license

Salary range: $31,000 per year | Closing Date: Monday, June 15th, 2015 at 5:00pm CST.
