Travel Branch Manager

Responsibility Statement:

Manage the activities of the travel office, maximize performance through effective leadership, and create a superior performing consultant team. Manage controllable expenses and develop sales and revenue to achieve financial and customer service objectives.

Key Results and Activities


1.       Establish, monitor and communicate measurable weekly, monthly and annual goals, in the areas of bookings, wage to revenue and insurance sales for each travel consultant.  Ensure each consultant has clear strategic/tactical plans that are consistent with the overall Sears Travel strategies. Accountable for managing controllable expenses in relation to plan and achievement of revenue goals. Constant vigilance of consultants and individual sales. Understand top consultants approach and help spread these best practices to other consultants and share effective and successful sales and product ideas and practices. 


2.       Provide inspired leadership to travel consultants to develop a highly motivated customer focused team, including: ensuring that all travel consultants are provided with technical skills training and opportunities to develop product knowledge; communicating expectations and goals.  Maintain knowledge of new products and system changes/upgrades. Work closely with Human Resources to recruit, develop and retain the best talent in the travel industry.  Ensure travel consultants are accountable for delivering business results by coaching for high performance lead and by fostering a customer driven culture


3.       Achieve personal sales and revenue goals by performing selling activities according Sears Travel’s policies/procedures.  This involves: Determining customer needs and providing the appropriate information/guidance to allow the customer to make an informed decision about their travel purchase/closing the sale and processing necessary information/documentation to complete transactions. Completing client files, reservation information, payment details and following proper accounting procedures and selling travel insurance.  Gathering and reporting weekly sales information as required. Developing/maintaining a client database. Establish, monitor and communicate measurable weekly, monthly and annual goals, in the areas of bookings, wage to revenue and insurance sales for each Travel Consultant.


4.       Ensure Quality Control of all reservations files for the agency, respecting deadlines and ensuring correction of all errors


5.       Identify and act upon areas of opportunity to maximize the sales and revenue potential by gaining an understanding of the competitive market and demographics of the local market; understanding the competition. Investigate and communicate competitive trends, target customer information, and best-of-breed sales and service practices to improve the performance of the branch. Marketing within the community, planning initiatives and developing and managing the local marketing strategies. Provide recommendations for additional marketing opportunities to the Regional Sales Manager and marketing teams at Travel Brands Head Office


6.       Develops a highly motivated customer centric sales team focused on the achievement of sales and revenue goals through customer acquisition and the development of a client. Exhibit exceptional customer service skills, and ensure that the entire travel team is customer focused and committed to providing excellent service responding to customer queries and complaints. Troubleshoot and resolve client issues, complaints and problems


7.       Manage and monitor the administrative functions and operational processes of the branch and ensure compliance with industry standards and Travel Head office requirements.  Complete operational procedures following opening and closing / review office emails, order supplies and brochures. Complete associates schedule in the payroll system. Processing the necessary information/documentation to complete the transactions; completing client files following proper accounting requirements.


8.       Perform other duties as required.




Specialized Knowledge, Skills, Attributes Required

o           Demonstrated understanding of Travel Agency accounting/administration procedures

o           General understanding of Sears Travel/TravelBrands policies/procedures and organizational structure

o           Demonstrated oral/written communication skills

o           Demonstrated strong leadership skills

o           Organizational skills – Ability to work independently

o           Ability to plan ahead, manage stress, respect deadlines and persevere

o           Customer service and interpersonal skills

o           Capable of managing stress and respecting deadlines

o           Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office  (Word – Excel – Power Point)


Academic Qualifications and Experience

o           Minimum of a high school diploma – or equivalent

o           Travel/Tourism school diploma - essential

o           3 to 5 years on-the-job experience and/or performing similar duties and/or related required


Effort (Physical/Mental)

o           Position requiring stress management capabilities due to fast paced and results driven environment.
