Ophthalmic Technician

Position: GEM Clinic Ophthalmic Technician

Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours/week, 8 AM – 5 PM (plus occasional overtime)

Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent; Ophthalmic Technician Certificate an asset but not required.  Our office uses Electronic Medical Records; strong computer skills are required.

Our modern and efficient ophthalmology clinic is looking for an energetic, team-oriented, positive, and capable technician to join our team.  Background in ophthalmology or optometry is an asset, but not required.  A willingness to learn and study will be required.  Our office currently consists of three ophthalmologists, one optometrist, and nine staff.  Our employee incentive package includes excellent health benefits, 3 weeks holiday time, and optional participation in a group RRSP and Deferred Profit Sharing Plan.  Salary to be negotiated.  [www.gemclinic.ca]

Under the medical direction of Dr. J.W. Rahman, Eye Physician and Surgeon, job tasks include assisting in performing tasks, collecting data, administering treatments as ordered and supervising patients. Takes patient histories, administers tests and evaluations, takes eye measurements for the purpose of diagnosis and performs related clinical support.  Communicate with drug representatives and support technicians. Maintain all office space and must stock and keep inventory of supplies and drops.

Ability to present a professional image, understand and carry out instructions. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to work with indirect supervision and accept personal responsibility. Ability to provide service in a courteous, tactful manner, while maintaining confidentiality. Ability to use an Electronic Medical Records System and have good knowledge of computer keyboarding and functions.  Must be able to multitask and assist in daily office procedures including answering telephone calls and managing messages.

Physical Demands/Lifting Requirements:
Ability to meet the physical demands of a busy Ophthalmology clinic practice, including the ability to see, hear, walk, write legibly, speak English, stand and work eight hours per day.  Ability to work occasional overtime and/or weekends is a necessary requirement.

Full training will be provided upon hiring. Approximate start date is May 1st to May 15th, 2014.
