Location: Baker Lake, NU

 

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development (HROD), you will provide HROD with a focus on the support and maintenance of the Human Resource Information System (HRIS) for our energy corporation. As our HRIS Specialist, you will provide the technical point of contact for various business departments within our organization in relation to generating reports and data on a wide range of HR processes and business applications, including ad hoc reports for both the HROD team and internal clients. You will manage the access and data entry of all information required in reporting builds, test and analyse data flow to ensure the integrity of reporting documents to clients, research process improvements and provide recommendations for change.

 

A key aspect of your role as HRIS Specialist will centre around our Performance Management Program: emPerform.  A collaborative, web-based software solution designed to technically facilitate our employee performance management process, emPerform provides functionality that allows us to develop and deploy web-based appraisals, web surveys and 360° multi-rater feedback questionnaires, succession planning, compensation management, and reporting & analytics. This software has been purchased as an add-on to our Great Plains HRIS program.

 

As our organization’s HRIS Specialist, you will be expected to become fluent with the program’s form and functionality, and to work with CRG (software provider) and partner with HROD’s HR Services Leader in ensuring that all of our forms and manuals are customized within the program. Training on this system will be provided by the vendor once you have become fluent and confident in all aspects of the program’s capability. The program will be rolled out to all Supervisors, Managers and Directors by mid-2014, and you will be providing training to ensure a thorough understanding and comfort level with emPerform’s use, including the development of training and user manuals.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Serving as HROD’s subject matter expert on our existing Great Plains System capabilities and potential system changes, add-ons, etc.;

Leading in the collection of all critical data, working in concert with Payroll to develop the numerous HR reporting documents, spreadsheets and statistical summaries;

Providing support and analysis to the Labour Relations Leader on labour relations matters, including collective bargaining;

In partnership with IT, providing maintenance and upgrades to system functionality while recommending best practices improvements;

Through analysis of present processes, recommending changes that will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of internal client reports;

Exploring, and reporting on, innovative solutions;

Using project management skills in managing project-focused initiatives;

Producing and distributing ad hoc HR reports, as required by internal clients;

Conducting audits in partnership with IT, to ensure the integrity of systems and document files;

Working with IT, as required, in planning and testing any and all HRIS add-ons or conversions;

Ensuring that our system has the capability of developing its future capacity to both collect and mine a wide variety of data that is confidentially accessible to Senior Manager departments;

Working from a basic reporting starting point, analyzing the business reporting and cost/analysis needs in Recruitment & Selection/Turnover, Training Program costs, Ad Hoc reports on various levels of compensation, including executive compensation, excluded employee compensation, unionized employee compensation, new employee file generation, etc.;

As a sitting member of the IT Committee, ensuring that HROD’s matters are heard and that IT & HROD work as partners to continuously improve the HRIS services to internal clients;

Partnering with all of HROD in soliciting feedback on the innovative and progressive ways in which we can ‘rebrand’ our HROD profile; and

Partnering with IT and with Corporate Affairs on this corporate site initiative.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

B. Comm. in Human Resources, or a BBA in Business / Human Resources;

HRIS expertise, with a strong understanding of HRIS database designs, structure, functions and processes for a medium-sized company;

Strong computer skills, especially MS Office Suite, with a thorough knowledge of MS Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint;

Effective organizational and interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills;

Knowledge of current Human Resource Management, including performance management, payroll / benefits, principles and practices related to Canadian Human Resource Management, employment law, etc.;

Knowledge of HR information technology and ability to recommend changes or improvements to existing processes or systems;

Knowledge of basic auditing and monitoring techniques required to ensure programmatic reliability and integrity;

Strong problem-solving skills;

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the HROD;

Detail orientation;

Aptitude and skills to learn new technologies (i.e., Crystal Reports);

Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility within the workplace; and

Proficiency in English.

 

ASSETS:

Courses in Human Resource Systems Management, or a combination of education and experience; and

Proficiency in Inuktitut.

 

Please note that this position is located in Baker Lake, Nunavut.
